James Ahn (Joong Hyun Ahn)
President and Head of M&A, Corporate Office Samsung Electronics
James Ahn is President and Head of the M&A Team within the Corporate Office at Samsung Electronics. He is responsible for driving Samsung's global portfolio strategy to ensure sustainable long-term growth, overseeing diverse sectors including electronics, healthcare, and life sciences. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors at Harman.
Since 2010, Mr. Ahn has spearheaded Samsung's M&A activities, executing more than 50 strategic transactions. Notable acquisitions under his leadership include ZF's ADAS business, Flakt Group, eMagin, and the full acquisition of Biogen's stake in Samsung Bioepis. He further led the $8 billion acquisition of Harman, as well as those of Dacor, Magna Battery System, and Novaled.
Mr. Ahn has also managed the strategic streamlining of Samsung's portfolio, including the divestitures of the printing business to HP, the defense and general chemical businesses to Hanwha Group, the fine chemical business to Lotte, and the HDD business to Seagate. He facilitated Samsung's strategic investments in Corning, Wacom, and BYD, and since 2020, has extended his oversight to Samsung's bio businesses.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Ahn served in the Corporate Strategic Planning Team and the Memory Business Division. He also spent four years in the United States, with roles at a Silicon Valley start-up and in server system development in Boston.
Mr. Ahn holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Korea University and an MBA from KAIST. He joined Samsung Electronics in 1986 as a software engineer and dedicated his first ten years to R&D.
